Reindeer Cookies

This kids and I had a blast making these today. I got the idea from the Nap Time Crafts blog and changed it up a bit. They were sooo easy to make and my 4 year old students LOVED them. I let them make one Rudolph cookie and then I let them pick their favorite 'regular' reindeer. Some of my girls chose to make Clarice...Rudolph's BFF.

All you need is:
Nutter Butters
(break apart the cookie and put the pretzels inside with some extra frosting to hold)
Pretzels
Chocolate Chips
Frosting
Peanut Butter M&Ms

A Place of their own...saving mommy's dinning table

I got a new dinning room table a few months ago and when I saw my daughter banging her fork on it during breakfast creating tiny dents in it.. I decided right then and there that I needed a little table just for the kids to eat at when we aren't sitting as a family. This is their spot...just for them!

I went to a few yard sales, searched on craigslist, and finally I went to a local thrift store and found this beauty:

Okay...I realize it doesn't look attractive, but I saw potential and for $35.00 I couldn't pass it up.

My nice dinning room table is black on the bottom with a dark walnut color on top. I wanted the kids table to match it as close as I could. I sanded the top and stained it with a black walnut polyurethane. I'm not much for painting so I found this spray paint for wood...OMG...LOVE IT!!! Goodbye paintbrushes. :0)
WARNING: When I painted the wood it left a bit of black residue... so when it's dry go over the painted surface with a wet rag and wipe off any excess...especially on the seat of the chairs. Lesson learned on my son's tan shorts... ;0p
Here it is finished...so much better than when I brought it home and I love the leg design.

Now for their wall. Of course I had to decorate their spot and make it personal. The only thing I bought was the shelf $20.00 {Target} and sign $10.00 {Marshalls}. I already had 2 8x10 black frames and I decided to do a silhouette for each of my kiddos. The way I did it was I took a picture of my kids side view. Loaded it on the computer and cropped it to a size 8x10. Printed the picture in black and white, plain paper, on low quality {don't waste your ink}. Stapled the picture to thick black scrapbook paper, cut out their silhouette, taped it to a piece of 8x10 white paper, framed it, and hung them up. I really like the way they turned out and the kids like it too.

Turkey Cookies

TUESDAY {Taste it}

Aren't these cookies Cute!

I tried to recreate them, but I could not find any candy corns...should have stocked up at Halloween! So I made up my own Turkey Cookie using 2 sugar cookies {1 large, 1 small}, gummy worms for the feathers, a red icing tube for the gobbler and it also served as my glue, candy eyes {found at target}, and graham crackers cut into triangles for the beak. I think they turned out pretty cute and the kids had a blast making them...so EASY!

A Paper Thanksgiving....budget friendly decor

~MONDAY {Make it}~

We are hosting Thanksgiving at our house this year. Normally we run from house to house, but this year both families are coming together in one home. Today I made some napkin rings, place mats, and thankful favor boxes for Thanksgiving. Our Thanksgivings aren't fancy. No fine china here, but we do use real plates and pre-set the table. We always have a buffet style dinner and sit together to eat.

I used 12x12 scrapbook paper as place mats {16 cents each} and I punched the corners with my rounded edge punch.

With the same style paper I made napkin rings {no need for fancy napkins...I use paper towels}, the stickers are from this {Free Printable} that I printed on sticker paper and punched out with my 1" circle punch.

Then I used my sizzix pillow box die to make little gift boxes that hold 4 Hershey's hugs and kisses. I embellished them with green paper hand punched on one side with a lace trim punch, a crescent tag (sizzix die) that says 'thanks,' and a piece of twine.

I found an awesome burlap role at Micheal's today...it makes a great simple and thin runner for the table, plus I'll be able to use it for gift wrapping...yay!

I also found the star wreaths yesterday at Target {$10 each} and love them.

So that's what I made today.

The Tree of Life

My husband and I watched this movie last night. OM Goodness...I really liked it. It's not your normal movie...very artistic...kind of confusing...but with a strong message. He couldn't keep his eyes open as he called it a 'snore fest,' BUT I loved it. My eyes were peeled till midnight finishing this movie (okay the venti iced latte from starbucks at 7pm probably had something to do with it). It was a real tear jerker and my throat was killing me...you know when you want to just sob, but you try to keep it in. My husband asked this morning..."so what was that movie about anyway." I said, "it's about life...the beginning, the struggles within, and the end of it." Enough said... go watch it.
